Seas the Day the Holiday Edition: What to do this Month

By Kaylyn Zurawski | Just for fun

Dec 06

Each month, one of our team members shares a list that comes directly from their own calendar and experiences. We might share a recipe we’ve come across, a band to “Listen” to, or an article or book to “Read.” Each list reflects our own tastes, but we’ll do our best to represent a variety of options and events each month so you can ideally find something that might suit your own interests.

This month we’re doing something a little different. Since it’s the Holiday season, our team will be sharing what we’re up to for the month of December!

Every year we head out to Jurek Farms to comb through the woods looking for that perfect tree. It’s a family affair and this year our littlest addition will join us. We take pictures with Santa and enjoy some hot cocoa while munching on a hot dog talking about our little excursion. And of course there are some snow balls tossed around by my son or at someone because we are his human targets. It’s all in good fun! – Mandy

Every Holiday season, I look forward to ice skating. This year, I’ll be checking out the Ugly Christmas Sweater Skate at Canalside on December 20th from 3pm – 7pm. If you come in your ugliest Christmas sweater, you receive $1 off admission. See you there! – Kaylyn

Every year for about the past 10 years my 2 brothers and I get together for a Christmas dinner. We do this instead of exchanging gifts. Our significant others attend. It started with just us and then expanded over the years to include cousins and their spouses. We call it the Eustice brothers and their cousins with their significant others. Sometimes it’s at a restaurant. Sometimes at someone’s home. This year we’re going out. Might check out the new Sinatra’s. Heard good things but haven’t been yet. – Erik

Every year, I go to The Broadway Market to pick up some sweet treats for the Holidays. My personal favorite are the decorated cutouts. If you haven’t been, then go! – Bailey

Are hot chocolate dates a thing? If not, they should be. One of my best friends and I plan to drive up to Lewiston to visit the Village Bake Shoppe for some hot chocolate and yummy treats!  – Kaylyn

You’ll find me at The Dockside Bar & Grill for Taco Tuesdays. Tacos always taste better when they’re half price!  – Bailey

Our annual tradition is baking and decorating cookies. I make and roll out the dough while my son helps me cut out shapes of his choice. My sisters and son spend hours decorating the cookies and at the end, we judge and crown a new winner. I wonder who will win best cookie artist for 2018? – Mandy

Currently reading The Divine Magician by Peter Rollins. – Erik

I’m currently reading the Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travel: Our List of the 500 Best Places to See. Call me crazy, but swimming with whales in Tonga is officially on my bucket list! – Bailey

This year is my nephews first Christmas! I look forward to reading him the classics like Night Before Christmas, The Polar Express, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. – Mandy

During the holidays, I always sit down and watch every single Christmas episode of The Office because no one throws a Holiday party quite like Michael Scott. From the secret Santa gifts to Phyllis as the office’s first female Santa, there’s a lot of Christmas goodness to go around. Watch on Netflix! – Kaylyn

We will definitely watch Elf a handful of times with the kids. We all love that movie. Will also make sure we watch the first Home Alone. And probably the second. And definitely Christmas Vacation. – Erik

Every Christmas the movie Elf ends up on television at some point. – Bailey

We watch a few movies and shows to celebrate the Holiday season. A Charlie Brown Christmas for my son, A Christmas Story for the family, and It’s a Wonderful Life for my husband. – Mandy

As I mentioned in last month’s post, Bailey and I created a Holiday music playlist for the office. We made it public, so you can listen too! Listen here. – Kaylyn

I’m currently listening to Garrison Keillor’s News from Lake Woebegon on YouTube. This guy is a remarkable storyteller. He invented Lake Woebegon, what he considers his hometown on the edge of the prairie in Minnesota, and all the characters/people that inhabit it. He’s folksy and heartfelt and humorous.  – Erik

My son loves Christmas so much he listens to Today’s Christmas all year long. We don’t have a favorite station, but enjoy traditional favorites. – Mandy

Lately I’ve been listening to Phil Keaggy. He’s an American acoustic guitarist. I highly recommend taking a list to his album Freehand.  – Bailey
