Seas the Day: What to Do This Month

By Kaylyn Zurawski | Just for fun

Nov 08

Each month, one of our team members shares a list that comes directly from their own calendar and experiences. We might share a recipe we’ve come across, a band to “Listen” to, or an article or book to “Read.” Each list reflects our own tastes, but we’ll do our best to represent a variety of options and events each month so you can ideally find something that might suit your own interests.

This month features Kaylyn. Learn more about what she’s up to this month.

DO

Every year on Thanksgiving morning, the YMCA host the annual Turkey Trot in Buffalo. It’s an 8k whose proceeds go to people in the community who are unable to afford the full costs of YMCA programs and services. The race begins on Delaware Avenue and continues into downtown Buffalo. This year, I’m running it! Learn more about the race here.

Every Wednesday night from 5:30 pm to 7:3o pm The Pub at Wegmans on Transit Road in East Amherst hosts a DJ Trivia night. Prizes include pub money and the trivia features a fun, live, and interactive trivia game that involves teams and a live DJ host. I plan on gathering my most competitive friends and attending! Find out more about DJ Trivia here.

EAT

In an effort to save money (and calories) and also prepare my stomach for Thanksgiving, I have made a point to cook at home more and meal prep. I read this article from The Everygirl, purchased these containers for my work lunches, and follow other tips such as setting time aside for meal prepping Sunday nights. These recipes also come in handy for easy prep meals using the crockpot. I plan on making the Chicken Enchilada Soup for lunch next week!

READ

Recently, I was having a conversation with a friend of mine about tough conversations and leadership. In the midst of our conversation she recommended the title Dare to Lead by Brene Brown.  I’m a fan of Brene, having read some of her other titles such as Rising Strong. She is always super practical, actionable, and she packs her books with new ways to think about taking risks. This book is said to be helpful for working in teams and creating stronger and braver work environments. Essential reading for anyone wanting to make what they do count. I can’t wait to start it!

WATCH

As a Harry Potter super fan, the final movie release was exciting yet a little saddening. It was the end of the story. However, a few years later came the series Fantastic Beasts starring Eddie Redmayne, based off a series of books written by J.K. Rowling under her pen name Newt Scamander. The storyline takes place in New York City, 70 years before Harry’s story starts. This month, the second movie in the series, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald comes out. I’ve been looking forward to this since the first movie was released. Find tickets here.

LISTEN

How early is too early for Christmas music? Asking for a friend. Just kidding, asking for myself. While I try to hold off to listen until after Thanksgiving, that is especially hard with artists such as John Legend and Ingrid Michaelson releasing Christmas albums in October. Yes, October. So you might find me sneaking in Christmas music here and there this month. The office admin Bailey and I have even begun curating a Christmas playlist (we’ll share next month). Happy listening.
